More Than Curb Appeal

Your exterior is a system, not a surface

Siding, soffit, fascia, trim and paint work together as your home’s weather barrier. When one part fails, water gets behind the others, and by the time damage is visible outside, it has usually been working on your sheathing and framing for a long while. Calgary’s hail and chinook cycles make that clock run faster than almost anywhere in Canada.

Hidden moisture damage

Water behind cladding rots sheathing and framing silently. What looks like one bad board is often the visible edge of a larger repair.

Energy loss

Failed sealing, missing wrap and tired cladding leak heat all winter. The envelope is where most of a home’s efficiency is won or lost.

Value & first impressions

The exterior is the first thing buyers and appraisers judge. Worn cladding and peeling paint discount a home before anyone steps inside.

Know The Signs

How do you know your siding or soffit needs replacing?

You can spot most envelope problems from the sidewalk. Walk your home’s exterior once a season, especially after hail, and look for these. Catching them early usually means a targeted repair instead of a full elevation.

Choosing Your Cladding

Which siding is best for a Calgary home?

Calgary asks more of an exterior than most cities: hail, hard UV, and forty-degree temperature swings in a single chinook week. Here is how the main cladding families handle it, so you can walk into material selection already informed.

Board-and-batten fibre-cement style siding on a Calgary renovation Calgary workhorse

Fibre-Cement (Hardie)

Typical lifespan30–50 yrs
Relative material costMid-range

The best all-round answer to hail, fire and freeze-thaw. Takes and holds paint beautifully, comes in lap, panel and shingle profiles, and does not feed insects or rot.

Corrugated metal panel siding with a wood accent, Calgary exterior Modern & low-maintenance

Metal & ACM Panels

Typical lifespan40+ yrs
Relative material costPremium

Crisp architectural lines with almost no upkeep. Sheds weather, shrugs off UV, and pairs well with wood or fibre-cement in mixed-material designs.

Cedar plank siding installation on an exterior wall in Calgary Natural character

Cedar & Shakes

Typical lifespan20–40 yrs
Relative material costVaries by grade

Unmatched warmth and texture for gables and feature walls. Needs periodic staining to keep its look, which is why we often use it as an accent over a fibre-cement base.

Most of our favourite Calgary exteriors mix materials: a fibre-cement base with cedar or panel accents. Lifespans assume proper installation over intact house wrap, which is exactly the part you cannot see and we never skip. Relative material cost compares these materials to each other, not a quote for your project. Your price depends on size, access and what we find underneath.

Do It Once, Do It Right

Why renovate the whole envelope at once?

You do not have to, but when more than one component is tired, combining the work saves real money: one mobilization, one set of scaffolding and access, and every junction detailed together instead of patched around later.

It is also the only time upgrading the hidden layers, house wrap, sealing, insulation, costs almost nothing extra, because the walls are already open.

Homeowner Questions

Exterior renovation in Calgary, answered

Hardie board is fibre-cement siding: a dense board that resists hail impact, does not burn, and handles wet and freezing conditions better than wood or vinyl. It holds paint far longer than wood and is one of the most durable claddings you can put on a Calgary home.

A few damaged boards on otherwise sound siding usually means a repair. Widespread cracking, warping, chronic peeling or any sign of moisture behind the cladding points to replacement, because water behind siding damages sheathing and framing long before you see it inside. We give you an honest read after an on-site look.

Soffit ventilates your attic and keeps pests out; fascia carries your eavestroughs and seals the roof edge. When they rot or fail, you get attic moisture, ice damming, and water running behind the gutter into the wall. They are small components that protect big systems.

Calgary sun, hail and chinook swings are hard on coatings, so most exteriors want repainting every 5 to 10 years depending on exposure and the quality of the last job. Peeling, chalky residue and fading are the usual signs. Proper prep is what makes the next coat last.

Often yes, by profile and colour. Where an exact match is impossible because of fading or a discontinued product, we show you options, including re-cladding a full elevation so the change reads as intentional rather than patched.

The siding itself is only part of it. The real gains come during installation, when we can upgrade the house wrap, seal penetrations, and add exterior insulation before the new cladding goes on. That combination cuts drafts and heating costs.

Yes. Siding, soffit, fascia, trim, panels and painting are handled by our own in-house crews as one accountable project, which keeps the details where systems meet, roof edge, wall penetrations, windows, done right.
